The Master’s University’s Robert L. Powell Library last Wednesday morning invited children ages 2-6 for its weekly story time, singing, and drawing.
Once the children arrived, Rachel Miller and Bethany Montajes began story time by singing their usual “Hello Song.” Miller is the library’s Circulation Manager, and Montajes is one of the student Circulation Assistants.
Miller then read the book “Pig the Pug” by Aaron Blabey. The story is about a pug named Pig that refuses to share his toys with Trevor, the wiener dog that lives with him.
After stretching their arms and legs, the children drew outside with sidewalk chalk. Drawings included a dinosaur, a robot, a dog, a flower, and more.
The event concluded with singing the normal “Goodbye Song.”
Megan is the mother of three children, ages 1, 3, and 5. This was her first time bringing them.
“My favorite part about the event was the singing. It was really fun to see the library staff … just having fun with the kids, and the kids were just dancing along and having a lot of fun with them,” Megan said. “Storytime is important because it’s interaction with other kids, and it’s a fun way to be loved on and love other families and other children, and stories are important.”
“Children’s Storytime is very important for the community as well. Something we get to do [is that] we get to really foster relationships between the different parents and families that come [and] between the children that come. … There’s a lot of alumni that come and that have small kids, a lot of staff and faculty and seminary wives that all have really little kids. Walking around campus, we noticed that there was a lot of parents with young children,” Miller said. “So, we wanted to provide something that could be for them. … So, this is just kind of a special thing that we could do to serve the families that come to Master’s or call Master’s home in one way or another.”
Children’s Storytime happens every Wednesday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. January through April and September through November.
