For Disney Week this year, The Master’s University (TMU) hosted Disney Karaoke Night at Trophy Coffee on Friday, February 3.  This year’s theme was Star Wars.

The event consisted of students singing karaoke versions of Disney songs on YouTube.  Songs included “Let It Go” from Frozen, “Evermore” from Beauty and the Beast, “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story, and more.

Attendees crowded around to sing along while enjoying their drinks.  Each purchased drink included a raffle ticket for a Disneyland ticket giveaway.

“I think it was so much fun being able to sing with other people just for fun…,” said Sarah Darrow, a freshman who attended.  “…singing just to sing, to have fun with each other is always a blast, and it’s not something I get to do often.  I really appreciate being able to do it here.”

For Katya Grimmius, another freshman, this was her first karaoke night.

“My family doesn’t do karaoke.  I’ve never done karaoke.  It was a lot of fun to just stand and watch people and see what it was like,” Grimmius said.

Herbert Roger Vega, a junior Music major, sang “Evermore.”

“I have time to perform in front of a lot of people pretty often.  So, I don’t get as nervous as [many] people, but just walking up there, I did have slight … nervousness ‘cause I didn’t know the song completely,” Vega said.

TMU announced the theme in chapel two days before the karaoke night.  Student Life decorated the cafeteria with Star Wars movie posters, planet and starship models, and black paper.

The school also planned other events.  The following Monday, Student Life showed in the MacArthur Center lobby Star Wars IV: A New Hope.  On Tuesday, classes were canceled for students to visit Disneyland.  TMU did not hold chapel the next day.
